Abstract

Plaque is one of the factors that causes dental and oral health problems such as caries, periodontal disease and other dental diseases. Therefore it takes a way to control the growth of plaque. Efforts to control and prevent plaque formation can be done mechanically or chemically. Control of plaque chemically can be done using mouthwash. Alternatives to a mouthwash can come from a natural ingredient that is believed to have anti-germ material with lower side effects compared with chemical base materials, such as red Ginger. The purpose of this research is to know the influence of the water-gargle red ginger decoction to decrease PHP index in Pondok Senyum Indonesia. Type of analytical study with quasi experimental design, number of samples 16 people using accidental sampling technique. Analysis using test of T-test dependent and T-Test independent. The result of test analysis of T-test dependent shows there is a decrease in PHP index before and after gargle of red ginger water. (T-count 11.85 ? T-table 1.895)


Conclusion                 : There is a gargle influence by using water decoction of red ginger to decrease PHP index
